Flexible night stop
On route 118 in Umeå municipality, we are running a test period with flexible night stops in 2023/2024 to increase the experience of safety for our passengers.
Flexible night stops are planned to be introduced in Umeå municipality's public transport and first it will be tested on route 118 together with the transport company Byberg & Nordin. The aim is to increase the experience of security late at night and at night. This already occurs to some extent today, but not explicitly under the name Flexible Night Stops.
Flexible night stop means that the bus can, by agreement with the driver, stop between regular stops for disembarkation on line 118, every day between 22:00 and 04:00.
How do I want a flexible night stop?
When boarding, ask the driver for a flexible night stop. Explain as precisely as possible where you want to get off. The driver decides whether it is safe to stop there. Sit close to the driver and get off at the front door of the driver. Do not use the stop button.
Can I figure out along the way that I want a flexible night stop?
Yes, it is ok to tell the driver after the road, but preferably you should tell them when you get on. Sit close to the driver while driving and get off in front of the driver.
Can I also use flexible night stops if I travel with a wheelchair?
Yes, everyone is offered the same opportunity to use it.
Should I use the stop button for flexible night stops?
No, do not use the stop button. You have already agreed with the driver that they will stop in a specific place.
I’m getting off between stops already, won’t I be able to continue doing that?
You will be able to continue doing so as long as you agree with the driver. Stopping between regular stops is always up to the driver to decide whether it can be done in a safe manner.
Why can't the bus stop where I want to?
It is the driver who decides whether it is safe to stop. Depending on the road conditions and the season, it can be difficult to know in advance whether it is roadworthy, but then the driver will have to decide it closer to the location.
On road sections where the speed limit is 50 km/h or higher, it is only allowed to stop the bus in a parking space or in a similar place where there is space.
If my friend and I want to use flexible night stops because it feels safer to walk together, is that ok?
Yes, that's ok. Tell the driver. That it's you and your friend who want to get off. Smaller parties are ok and it is the driver who decides what is a smaller party in the right situation.
