School Trips and School Transportation
Information about school travel to and from school for pupils in primary and secondary school. Your municipality is responsible for school transport and you need to apply for it from your municipality.
When you are in compulsory school or upper secondary school, your municipality can decide that you have the right to travel to and from school by public transport. This is often referred to as school transport.
School transport for primary school pupils
With a school ticket, you can make two one-way trips per day with the regular service. The ticket is valid on all school days. During holiday periods, you cannot travel on the school ticket. Changing buses to another line must be made within two hours of the start of the journey.
The school ticket is used as long as you attend the school.
The school ticket is personal and you must be prepared to be able to identify yourself. When travelling with school card, the pupil does not have the right to bring a fellow traveller.
You should keep your school card from primary school when you start secondary school.
School transport for upper secondary school students
The bus ticket with school transport obtained from your municipality/school is valid for travel to and from school for upper secondary school students. The ticket is valid for two one-way journeys per school day and also includes journeys with Norrtåg and, in some cases, transfers to city buses. Changing to another route must be made within two hours of the start of the journey.
The card is personal and students traveling on a school card must be able to present photo identification. The upper secondary school card is not valid on public holidays or during holiday periods. The card must be shown to the ticket machine at each journey. When travelling with school card, the pupil does not have the right to bring a fellow traveller.

The card is plastic. It cannot withstand bending. You may not pierce the card. Around the inside of the entire card there is a wire loop. If the card breaks or cracks, the card becomes unusable.

Apply for school transport at your municipality but keep your school card. If you're granted school transport, you will continue using the same card.
The school card is personal and only valid together with photo identification. If you cannot show identification, the inspector will write down your name, personal identity number and school card number. The second time this happens, you will receive a letter from Länstrafiken asking you to provide an explanation as to why you did not have any identification. If you are unable to identify yourself a third time, Länstrafiken will block your card and you will have to buy a new one at the school's office for SEK 300.
The inspector confiscates the school card and the person who borrowed the card must pay a control fee of currently SEK 1500 as well as a bus ticket for the bus trip in question. You must then buy a new school card for 300 SEK.
